Get mental health support

If you need urgent help with your mental health, use one of the helpline services listed below. You can find more services on our urgent help page.

  • Samaritans

    Whatever you're going through, you can contact the Samaritans for support. N.B. This is a listening service and does not offer advice or intervention.

  • Childline

    If you’re under 19 you can confidentially call, chat online or email about any problem big or small.

    Sign up for a free Childline locker (real name or email address not needed) to use their free 1-2-1 counsellor chat and email support service.

    Can provide a BSL interpreter if you are deaf or hearing-impaired.

    Hosts online message boards where you can share your experiences, have fun and get support from other young people in similar situations.

  • NHS Urgent Mental Health Helpline (England only)

    Offers mental health support and advice, help to speak to a mental health professional, and can arrange an assessment to help decide on the best course of care.

We offer three different services to parents and carers who are concerned about their child’s mental health, up to the age of 25.

  • Parents Helpline - Get detailed advice, emotional support and signposting. If you need further support, we will arrange a 50-minute telephone consultation with a mental health professional within seven days. Our Helpline is open 9:30am - 4pm, Mon - Fri.
  • Parents Webchat service - Once you are connected, a webchat adviser will direct you to information on our website or signpost you to other organisations that can offer further support. The conversation will last around ten minutes. Our Webchat is open 9:30am - 4pm, Mon - Fri.
  • Parents Email service - Email us and receive practical advice, signposts to places where you can find help and resources providing more detailed information within 3-5 working days. Our email service is open 4pm - 9:30am, Mon - Fri and over the weekend. Please be aware that our parents@youngminds.org.uk email address is no longer active, and you will not receive a response from our team if you send an email directly to our address. However, you can still get in touch with our team via webchat, email or over the phone. To find out how take a look at our Parents Helpline page.

Frequently asked questions

YoungMinds is an independent national charity and is not part of the NHS at all. CAMHS is a set of local services run by the NHS in your area and you’ll usually be referred by your GP or, you can find your nearest CAMHS service on the NHS website.

We provide training courses to adults – see our current training courses or get in touch to find out about training.

Currently we do not provide training or presentations to young people, but it is something we’re hoping to offer in the future. For opportunities for young people under 25, look here.

We have very limited capacity to attend promotional events, however if you think we would be a good fit, please get in touch.

We are unable to promote or endorse projects when we have not been involved in the development process from the beginning.

If you are a young person under the age of 25 and would like more information on playing an active role in the work we do, see how you can get involved.

Unfortunately we do not offer clinical services to young people, so we are unable to support psychology/social work etc. placements at YoungMinds.

We are also not currently able to offer internships or accommodate work experience placements due to the lack of resources in the office.
