Magazine shortlisted in national competition

01/01/2008

YoungMinds Magazine has been shortlisted in the prestigious Mental Health Media Awards 2008. The nominated piece is about the Candle counselling scheme, run by St Christopher’s Hospice, for children and young people who have lost a loved one to sudden death.

Among those it helps are children whose siblings have died in the spate of knife killings that have taken place across London. It was written by leading freelance journalists Mark Gould and Joanna Lyall and appeared in the May/June issue of the magazine; you can read it here.

YMM Cover issue 94Magazine editor Susan Delgado said: ‘This was a brilliant piece of journalism by Mark and Joanna and I’m delighted that its quality has been recognised in this prestigious national award. The shortlisting is also great news for the magazine and for YoungMinds itself. The magazine is editorially independent, but does much to promote the values of the organisation and shine a light on child and adolescent mental health.”

YoungMinds chief executive Sarah Brennan added: This is great news for the magazine and YoungMinds. The magazine provides brilliant coverage of child and adolescent health for everyone who works in the field or has an interest in the subject. The shortlisting tells us what we already knew – that the magazine is going from strength to strength. Congratulations to all those involved.”

The award winners will be announced on 25 November at a ceremony at BAFTA, the headquarters of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, in London’s Piccadilly.
