But the online world can also often be a very positive one for children and young people.
This is reflected in the growing number of young people’s online support services, offering advice, information and counselling.
Relate ran a new initiative, free online counselling for young people during August.
Eating disorders charity Beat is expanding its existing free online support with a new service for young people in transition that includes web chats and email support facilitated by survivors of eating disorders. This service is currently available for people with connections to 14 London boroughs only.
Kooth.com says 89 per cent of its users prefer online counseling to telephone support.
