Resilience is key
Developing resilience is seen as a key solution the challenges facing mental health support for children and young people at last week's round table debate at the Labour Party Conference, attended by Andy Burnham MP, Shadow Minister for Health.
Speaking in response to the outcomes and learning from the work carried out by the BOND project in Tees Valley, Andy Burnham said: “We need to ensure that children and young people with mental health issues and SEN needs don’t fall between the cracks of health and education services that have become fragmented and disjointed”.
He praised the BOND approach of bringing sectors together to ensure a whole system approach.
Burnham encouraged local services, especially voluntary and community sector organisations, to influence their local health and wellbeing boards to set children and young people’s mental health as a priority and assured the meeting that he will be working with their local councillors to do the same.
