Conference: Young people and the internet
A unique conference for CAMH professionals and service providers concerned about the psychological effect of the internet on young people is being run by YoungMinds and the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health in London on 20 November.
This one day conference in London entitled ‘Young People in the Internet Wilderness: A Psychological Time-Bomb?’ offers solutions for CAMHS professionals and service providers to respond effectively to the risks posed by the internet.
While online technology gives rise to innovative opportunities such as e-therapy, there are safety issues including cyber-bullying, grooming, exposure to inappropriate material such as pornography and self-harm and suicide websites.
Knowing how to identify and respond effectively to the opportunities and risks posed by the internet is a priority for service providers. The conference is a must for CAMHS and AMHS staff, GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists, children’s workforce, youth workers and education professionals.
Delegates at this unique event will explore:-
- Research and the latest thinking on opportunities and threats of the internet
- The key issues from the service provider, academic and user perspectives
- The prevalence, impact and potential implications of the world wide web.
Speakers at the conference include Sue Berelowitz, the deputy children’s commissioner for England, Will Gardner from Childnet International and Peter Smith, emeritus professor of psychology at Goldsmith College.
There will be afternoon workshops and take home messages.
