Back to school blues?

Going back to school is likely to bring about fears and worries for the whole family. Taking the time to acknowledge these feelings can make things easier not only for children but for parents too.

school gate1. Establishing good mealtime and bedtime routines in the run up to going back to school can really ease the transition. But remember, it's never too late to start up a new routine and the benefits might come quicker than you'd expect.

2. Taking time on Sunday evening to think about the week ahead can make things run more smoothly at school. On week nights, preparing things like pack lunches and clothes for the next morning can make a big difference.

3. The first couple of weeks back are the hardest. Allow everyone some time to adjust.

4. Homework might be a new concept to get used to. Taking an interest in
your child's homework will help them keep on track. It might also be useful to look at getting a balance after school between having some rest and relaxation and completing homework tasks.

5. If problems persist and you feel unsure what to do next, make sure you share this with someone at school. If you feel there is an issue that needs further advice contact the YoungMinds Parents information service.
