Scottish government

Work with the Scottish Development Centre to help develop a national framework for child and adolescent mental health services.

YoungMinds has been working in partnership with the Scottish development agency for over three years, to help implement a ground-breaking national framework for promotion, prevention and services around mental health for all young people.

The development of a “co-ordinated and coherent” network of services is set out in the Scottish Executive’s 2005 Framework for the Mental Health of Children and Young People.

The partnership  has been very successful, because of the ability to bring the YoungMinds experience of children’s mental health issues together with the SDC’s knowledge of the Scottish care system.

Our work with the SDC included:

Hosting over 20 stakeholder events and bringing together 800 people from all the agencies and services operating at a local level which looked at the priorities for children and young people’s mental health. To download detailed reports on the learning outcomes from these events go to www.sdcmh.org.uk.

Setting up collaborative professional networks which aim to improve outcomes across Scotland by sharing learning and best practice.

Our work has helped health boards and local authorities start the process of change towards a more comprehensive and integrated services. Together through this partnership, we have worked with our clients highlight and share good practices across Scotland. We have also been able to report back to Scottish government  in a process that enables knowledge of current good practice to shape future policy development.
