Minority Voices gathered extensive data from young people from Black and minority ethnic groups about their awareness, understanding and experiences of using mental health services, and barriers to accessing help.
As a contrasting perspective, information from the staff working with them has also been collected, backed by a mapping of service provision across the country. Two reports have been produced as a result of this research, both of which are aimed at service commissioners and all those working to support the mental health of young people:
Minority Voices: research into the access and acceptability of services for the mental health of young people from Black and minority ethnic groups:
This is a full research report by Cathy Street, Ceilidh Stapelkamp, Emily Taylor, Mhemooda Malek and Zarrina Kurtz. It explains the study methodology, the findings from the fieldwork and the study recommendations.
Minority Voices: a guide to good practice in planning and providing services for the mental health of Black and minority ethnic young people by Zarrina Kurtz, Ceilidh Stapelkamp, Emily Taylor, Mhemooda Malek and Cathy Street:
