“I’m so worried that one day I’m going to go in his room and he would have killed himself. I know my son and he is in need of help.”
This is what one mum of an eight year old boy told us when she rang our Parents’ Helpline. Another mum of a 15-year-old described her phone call to the Helpline as a “lifesaver” as the advice she received enabled her to respond appropriately to her daughter’s attempted suicide just one week later.
Children and young people’s mental health is everybody’s business. A staggering 850,000 young people in the UK are affected by mental health problems – or to put it another way, three children in every classroom. Children are affected by depression, anxiety, eating disorders and self-harm –very real and very scary problems.
YoungMinds is the leading national charity improving the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children and young people. By donating to improve children and young people’s mental health, you will help us to continue our vital work.
