Training and consultancy
YoungMinds' training and consultancy work is designed to enable people across the children’s workforce to become more confident and competent in working with children, young people, their families and carers.
We share the Government’s view, set out in the mental health strategy, that mental health is everyone’s business. We support the call to “build resilience, promote mental health and wellbeing, and challenge health inequalities”.
With over 15 years’ experience of delivering training, our courses are informed by the available evidence, including the voices of children and young people, parents and professionals. We encourage a multi-disciplinary approach where learning comes through exploring different perspectives and working together to better understand children’s mental health.
We believe that the capacity to reflect is central to effective work and to our own wellbeing as practitioners. With that in mind we aim to support participants to feel more emotionally contained themselves, so that they can provide containment to the children and families they work with.
All of us working with parents, babies and infants, school age children or older young people have an influence on their mental health and emotional wellbeing. Awareness of the ways in which we can promote mental health, identify early those experiencing or at risk of mental health problems and intervene appropriately, can help us to make that impact positive and supportive.
Mental health is about all of us. There are many myths and stereotypes that surround the subject and the impact of stigma on children and young people with mental health problems is significant. Our training recognises these dynamics, challenges stigma and works within a holistic model that aims to be child centred while nourishing the emotional wellbeing of all those involved in supporting children’s mental health.
