Relationships and interactions in the early years have a powerful influence on the development of children’s mental health and emotional wellbeing.  This course will look at how practitioners can help parents and carers to establish the psychological bedrock that will support children as they grow and develop.

Drawing on evidence from a range of disciplines and perspectives, the course aims to enable participants to feel more competent and confident in supporting parents and carers to promote good mental health.  It will be of interest to early years professionals, health visitors and others supporting parents and carers of young children or working directly with pre-school age children.

"A challenging but excellent day that has made me think differently about some of the children and families I work with"

(Early Years Professional, South Wales)

Participants will explore theory, research and practice from attachment and neuroscience and consider how an understanding of these issues can be applied to work with children and with parents and carers.  Using a risk and resilience framework the course will enable participants to develop practical strategies that can applied in their work.

Working with children and families can be hugely rewarding but also stressful and difficult.  The emotional wellbeing of practitioners is critical to effective practice and the course will introduce participants to a model of reflective practice to support them in looking after their own wellbeing.
