Making a media complaint
Information on how to make an official complaint about a media outlet
Have you seen a programme or article recently that has reinforced the stigma and prejudice that surrounds mental illness? Your voice can make a difference in changing the way that the media portrays mental health and illness.
Many media outlets are more aware of their readers, viewers or listeners opinions than those of charities and other organisations. If they receive complaints or feedback from you it can make a bigger impact than if it came from YoungMinds.
If you have seen something that you feel badly represents mental illness then don't be afraid to complain and make your voice heard.
Making a complaint about print press
If you have seen something in a newspaper or magazine that you would like to complain about you can either write to the editor, the letters editor or the journalist. If they don't reply to you within one week or you are not happy with their answer then you can contact the Press Complaints Commission (PCC).
The Press Complaints Commission is an independent organisation that deals with complaints from members of the public about the content of newspapers and magazines.
