30/04/2008
The mental health of children and young people is of increasing concern to us all. Child and Adolescent Mental Health Today, a new book supported and contributed to by YoungMinds will provide frontline workers in health, education and social services with the knowledge and understanding of the mental health issues affecting children and young people today.
The book covers a range of topics from cultural competence, to partnership working, promoting positive parenting, risk and resilience, mental health in schools, the mental health needs of young offenders, eating disorders, self- harm and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Each chapter is written by an expert providing a unique collection of the difficulties experienced by young people and their families.
Paula Lavis, Policy and Knowledge Manager and co-editor of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Today said: “Children and young peoples mental health is a vast and complex subject, which can be very daunting to people new to this area.
“The book provides an invaluable resource to students and practitioners, giving them the basic building blocks to knowledge of children and young peoples mental health. It considers a wide range of areas from early intervention to specific conditions such as psychosis and examines how people work together to deliver a comprehensive range of services.”
