Fathers have feelings too, says YoungMinds
21/07/2008
Fathers have a really important role to play in their child’s well being, yet many lack the skills and confidence to get involved. That’s the message behind comedy night, Those Young Minds, showing on 14th and 15th August, at Gilded Balloon, Edinburgh.
Daryl Nicholas, YoungMinds project coordinator said: “Nine out of every ten parents who call our helpline are mothers. We want fathers to get the message that it’s ok for them to be concerned about their children, and to take action. They don’t have to leave it to mothers.”
Using comedy as tool to engage fathers with their children’s wellbeing, award wining John Ryan will serve up anecdotes and antidotes to dealing with the good, the bad and ugly sides of fatherhood based on the experiences of over 100 dads.
“It’s a revelatory experience, funny, honest and weirdly, quite moving.” Time Out
“Ryan’s honest dissection of the role fathers can play in their children’s well being was entertaining and struck a successful balance between a light hearted and serious approach.” Community Care
Those Young Minds written and performed by John Ryan takes place at the Gilded Balloon (Wine Bar), 14th-15th August 6.45pm. For booking information please call 0131 668 1633. Tickets: £10 (£8)
