YoungMinds presents London premiere of comedy show Those YoungMinds

14/03/2008

YoungMinds, the UK's leading children's mental health charity, is bringing Those Young Minds, a campaign to encourage fathers to seek help when they are concerned about their children to London this June.

'Nine out of every ten parents who call our helpline are mothers,' says project coordinator Daryl Nicholas. 'We want fathers to get the message that it's OK for them to be concerned about their children, and to take action. They don't have to leave it to mothers.'

Using comedy as a way to engage fathers with their children's emotional well-being, the Those Young Minds campaign message will be delivered via a stand-up show from award winning comedian John Ryan.

John Ryan has helped produce a series of short films to promote the campaign, which can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/group/youngminds A recording of the show is also be available on the YoungMinds website.

John Ryan spoke to over 100 fathers about their experiences as part of his research for the show.

John Ryan: 'I wanted to find out how they spent time with their children and how prepared they were when they discovered they were going to be a parent. No one gives you a manual. You just get a baby and are expected to know what to do with it!'

Those Young Minds written and performed by John Ryan takes place on 10th and 17th June 2008 at Soho Theatre, London Box office: 0870 429 6883.
