YoungMinds welcomes new children’s mental health website
07/09/2008
Great Ormond Street Hospital’s (GOSH) new interactive mental health site for 12-18 years will be a vital resource for young people with mental health problems, says YoungMinds, the children’s mental health charity
The website www.childrenfirstnhs.uk/teens/health/mental_health will include factsheets on mental health conditions, treatments and medications, and first hand accounts of life on a psychiatric ward.
Sarah Brennan, YoungMinds Chief Executive said: “Websites such as GOSH’s help young people to understand more about mental health problems and ensure they have access to information when they need it. They provide information which young people don’t feel comfortable getting elsewhere, often helping to identify what might be wrong and how to get help.”
YoungMinds is currently developing a section of its own website to include accessible information about treatments for ADHD, eating disorders, bipolar, schizophrenia, substance misuse, anxiety, conduct disorder, self harm and depression. The project will also provide details of a child’s rights, what to do if you have a complaint, and provide a forum to capture young people’s direct experiences. The project will be launched in January 2009
Ends
For immediate release: Sunday 7th September
