VIK triumph at Young Partners Award

01/01/2008

Following tough competition with other CAMHS organisations and a rigorous process of shortlisting, the YoungMinds VIK panel have won the NCVYS Young Partners Award 2007 along with three other organisations.

The Young Partners Award is a celebration of young people’s involvement in decision-making within voluntary and community youth organisations and projects. It provides an opportunity for such organisations and projects to demonstrate what they have achieved, share ideas and inspire other organisations.

YoungMinds have been working in Partnership with ICA to provide our VIK Young People's Panel with training in leadership and community action. At the event were Omari, Antonia, Bex and Holly from the VIK group and YoungMinds staff Julia Mason and Carly Raby.

Steven Pryse, Youth Participation Development Officer at NCVYS, commented after the event:

‘As a sector we don’t always take time to celebrate our achievements and share those positive experiences with others, including the young people we work with. These Awards offer the opportunity not only to celebrate, but to move forward by sharing ideas about what really works in engaging young people in decision-making.’

Who is VIK?

Bex being interviewedVIK is a small group of children and young people who represent kids across the country, helping to advise YoungMinds and a lot of other organisations. They represent the people on the Healthy Heads panel and make sure their voices and opinions are heard.

Bex, who is on the YoungMinds VIK panel, was interviewed by a young NCB panel member about what the VIK is all about.
