Stress can be a difficult thing to understand. Sometimes you might feel stressed and not even know why! There are many reasons why people can feel stressed or worried. For example:

  • Your school work may be getting on top of you
  • Being bullied or abused
  • Having problems at home or with friends
  • Someone close to you is ill or dies

When you are stressed it can really affect your emotions. You might find it hard to concentrate, feel frustrated, angry or depressed. It can also affect your body too. You might not feel like eating, find it hard to switch off or go to sleep you might even get stomach aches and headaches.

Coping with stress

Stress can really get on top of you especially if whatever is causing the stress doesn’t go away There are some things you can do to help you cope with stress and worries:

  • Think about how you can tackle the problem that is stressing you.
  • Do something you enjoy that relaxes you like taking a bath or going for a walk to clear your head.
  • Do some exercise like running, dancing or football.
  • Talk to someone like a friend, family member, teacher, counsellor, youth worker or a helpline.

Don’t struggle in silence. Talking to someone you trust can really help you to deal with stress and work out a way to tackle the problem that is causing it.
