We are YoungMinds

The UK’s leading charity fighting for a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health

Our new brand to give new hope

Over the last year, we worked closely with young people to hear what you need from us.

You told us you want honesty, for us to speak up more on the issues you care about and offer mental health support that makes you feel seen and heard. All of you. That means doing more for Black, minoritised and marginalised young people. You want solutions beyond the one-size-fits-all approach to mental health.

And you want to know there’s hope for your future. So we're changing how we look, and we're changing how we do things too.

How we're changing

Why we're needed

It takes courage to ask for help. But for many young people who do, the support they need just isn’t there. Hundreds of thousands of young people are struggling with their mental health, but too many are being told to wait, struggling to cope and hitting a crisis point before they get help.

But things can get better. And we’re leading the movement for change.

We provide young people with the tools to look after their mental health. We empower adults to be the best support they can be to the young people in their lives. And we give young people the space and confidence to get their voices heard and change the world we live in.

Together, we can create a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health.

  • Our purpose: To stop young people's mental health reaching crisis point.

Every young person whose mental health ends up in crisis is a young person who has been failed. The earlier young people can access the right help, the more likely it is that they avoid reaching crisis point.

  • Our vision: A world where no young person feels alone with their mental health.

We want to see a world where every young person who is struggling feels able to reach out and has people and services around them who can really help.

  • Our mission: To make sure all young people get the mental health support they need, when they need it, no matter what.

Whether they need a reassuring conversation, specialist mental health support, or simply the knowledge that they are not alone in how they are feeling, we will make sure that all young people get the right support as fast as possible.

Our values

We're not afraid to speak up for what's right.

We know what needs to change because young people tell us. If they raise their voices, so do we.

We're optimistic.

Things get tough, but we never forget to celebrate progress and never stop looking for practical ways to make things better.

Kindness is our strength.

Everything we do, we do with love, care and compassion.

We celebrate what makes you, you.

Whoever you are, we welcome you and encourage you to always be true to yourself.

Our strategy

Our three-year strategy, ‘You Matter’, launched in 2020 with a clear purpose: stop young people reaching crisis point with their mental health. It consists of three strategic programmes:

  • Programme 1: Never Alone

Helping young people to look after their own mental health.

  • Programme 2: Someone To Turn To

Making sure young people have adults around them who can really help.

  • Programme 3: Powerful Young Voices

Building a youth-led movement to make sure support is there for everyone who needs it.

Each of these programmes shows how we’re delivering our mission to make sure young people get the mental health support they need, when they need it, no matter what.

Our impact

Two girls sitting together at a park bench with their friends. They are both laughing and one is looking at her phone.

Every year we report on the progress we’ve made, the things we've achieved and our future plans. It’s so important that we evaluate and showcase the great work we’re doing to make sure we're on track to achieve our mission.
